What is the best time of day for game drives?

The best time for game drives is typically during the early morning and late afternoon, as animals are generally more active during these cooler hours.

How long do game drives typically last?

Game drives usually last around 3-4 hours, but full-day drives with a picnic lunch can also be arranged. We can also organise picnic breakfast while on game drive

What types of wildlife can I expect to see during a game drive?

During a game drive, you can expect to see a variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species.

What are the current park fees and the rules ?

You will have to have a valid Park Fee ticket to go on game drives.
Park Fees are valid for 12 hours each day (from 6am to 6pm)
No Park fees required if you do other activities - hot balloon, horse riding, guided walks, Masai Village visit ...)
For non-residents Park Fees  for 2025 (subject to changes)
January 1 – June 30, 2025:
    • $100 per adult
    • $50 per child (ages 9–17) and free for children under 9
July 1 – December 31, 2025:
    • $200 per adult
    • $50 per child (ages 9–17) and  free for children under 9
We can pay the Park fees on yoru behalf and include the desired number of Park Fees or you can pay directly every day (same price)

Are there any age restrictions for game drives?

There is no age restrictions for the game drives but generally, we will ask to privatize the vehcile for the game drives if you have small children and stay on Package basis . It is best to check with our maketing team.

Do you have a fixed safari schedule for the day?

We don't have fixed schedules, and the program for the next day will be discussed with your guides. Here's a tentative plan if you arrive by plane:

On your arrival day, assuming you arrive in the morning (flight departs 9:30 and arrives around  10:30), we will pick you up and transfer you to the camp. After check-in and briefing, you'll have lunch. Afternoon game drives start around 3:00 pm/3:30 pm, and you'll return to the camp early in the evening. Everyone must exit the Mara Triangle/official game drive reserve by 6pm pm, as game drives are not allowed from 6pm to 6am. You wil nee to have a valid Park Fee.
I fyou prefer we can organise other activities that do not require Park fees (horse rding, guided walks, Masai village visit, ....)

The next day, you can choose a full day game drive with a packed picnic lunch or an early morning game drive. We also organize bush breakfasts. For early game drives, you'll leave the camp around 5.45/6am after having coffee/tea and homemade biscuits/cakes, returning around 9:30/10am for breakfast. You'll go on an afternoon game drive later, depart around 3pm.

The program for the following day will be agreed upon and discussed with our manager and your guide the night before. You can also organize other activities such as guided walks/walking safaris, horse riding, school visits, spa treatments, massages, or hot bubble baths. You can also relax and enjoy our beautiful views.

These activities can be organized in advance or at the camp. We recommend letting us know in advance for smooth organization.

What should I wear and bring with me on a game drive?

Wear comfortable clothing in neutral colors, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Bring warm clothes for cooler mornings and evenings, a light jacket, binoculars, and a camera.

Can I take photographs during game drives?

Yes, you are encouraged to take photographs during game drives. Remember to be respectful of the wildlife and follow your guide's instructions.

Are game drives safe, and what safety precautions are taken?

Game drives are safe, with experienced guides who prioritize your safety. Always follow your guide's instructions, stay in the vehicle, and avoid making loud noises or sudden movements.

How many people can fit in your 4x4 open-sided vehicles?

Our 4x4 open-sided vehicles are specially designed for game drives, ensuring each passenger has a window view. We can accommodate a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle, each with a window season

Do you offer private game drives for families or small groups?

Kilima Camp can offer private game drives for families or small groups. Check with the camp directly to arrange a private drive.

How experienced are the guides leading the game drives?

Guides at Kilima Camp are highly experienced, knowledgeable, and trained to ensure a memorable and informative wildlife experience.

What is the best season to go on game drives in the Masai Mara?

The best season and busiest season for game drives in the Masai Mara is typically from July to October when the Great Wildebeest Migration occurs. However, game drives in the Masai Mara are amazing all year-round as the park is home to abundant resident wildlife including the Big 5 and large population of lions, Leopards, cheetah...

Are there any specific health requirements for participating in a game drive?

There are no specific health requirements for game drives, but it's important to ensure you are in good physical condition and have all necessary vaccinations for travel to Kenya.

What kind of vehicles are used for game drives?

Game drives typically use open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles or closed vehicles with pop-up roofs, which offer excellent visibility and comfort while navigating the terrain.

Can I request a specific guide for my game drive?

While you may be able to request a specific guide, it is subject to availability and may not be guaranteed. It's best to communicate your preferences with our marketing team

What measures are taken to ensure responsible tourism and conservation during game drives?

Are game drives suitable for people with mobility issues or disabilities?

Many camps, including Kilima Camp, strive to accommodate guests with mobility issues or disabilities. Discuss your specific needs with our marketing team who will liase with the camp directly to ensure they can cater to your requirements.

Will I have cell phone reception or internet access during game drives?

Cell phone reception and internet access may be limited during game drives. It's best to view this time as an opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.

What activities are available at Kilima Camp?

Kilima Camp offers a wide range of engaging activities besides game drives. These include guided nature walks, horse riding safaris, night game drives, hot air balloon safaris, Masai village visits, and school visits. We also provide relaxing massages and bubble baths at our spa.

Other activities such as a hot air balloon flight, archery lessons, bird-watching, or cultural tours can be arranged upon request. You can book all these activities at the camp or in advance, but we highly recommend booking the hot air balloon safari and horse rding in advance.
